Refereeing, Roosters and Terry Nutkins

Hi All,

Tonight is a big game. What a ridiculous cliché. They are all big games are they not? Regardless, my point is that we play the Helsinki Roosters tonight at the Sonera Stadium, home of HJK Helsinki and of course Jari Litmanen. The game is on Finnish television once more and it marks the opening of ‘Your Move’ – Helsinki’s youth festival. All in all, there is a lot going on surrounding tonight’s game. If that isn’t enough, then both teams are coming into the game with an 0-1 record having lost their openers last week.

I'm hoping to get Jari Litmanen's locker tonight at the stadium

We’ve been working hard this week to fix the issues we encountered last week against the Crocs. On defence we are highly motivated to perform and are really starting to build a team spirit. Practice on Tuesday was a high tempo affair and it was fantastic to see guys putting the effort in to make sure we turn around our season after last week’s debacle. This should be a corker of a game.

We also have a new ‘guest’ star on the sidelines this week. Dave ‘Terry Nutkins’ Rowlands is visiting for the weekend. He proved to be our lucky talisman in the thriller against the Roosters last year and this year he has been promoted to a special position on the sideline staff. I will try to ensure that we get some film of him carrying out his waterboy duties.

In other news, I refereed another of the Wolverines II games last week. I’m really not sure I could make a habit of this refereeing malarkey. It is far too stressful. The Wolverines lost the game 10-6 thanks to Ben throwing a flag for offside at an onside kick which the Wolverines recovered. Needless to say he should probably avoid them at practice.

Also had our first Saunas this week at the public swimming pool. Still not a pleasant environment….

Game kicks off at 18:30 Finnish Time (16:30 British). Its on Urho TV in Finland but unfortunately I don’t think you can watch in Britain. For score updates see you can follow at
